FAIRYTALE SENJA

Senja is the second biggest island in Norway. A fairytale island which is so beautiful that you will wonder why you never came here before. In a dramatic landscape where mountains plunge straight down into the sea, you will find houses and people clinging tightly to the land, close to the sea which has given them everything. Between precipitous mountains and high peaks, you will find fjord arms with chalk-white beaches and waters so clear that you can see why this is described as a fairytale island.

Senja’s many mountains, peaks, viewpoints, lakes, rivers and seas make the island a playground for outdoor people who either love challenges or just want to get closer to nature. This island offers excursions and experiences for everyone, whether they love nature or want to enjoy the bounty it offers. And the ocean is full of fish here.

EVENTYRØYA SENJA

The people here have strong ties with nature and the sea which is so important to them. They have developed a tradition of folklore which has helped give personalities to some of the island’s attractions. The ‘Senja Troll’ is one of the island’s symbols, based on the troll that you might encounter on the island or out at sea. Or the ‘Man in Ausa’, a mountain which has eyes and a face. But when you meet the local people, you meet hospitable folk who work hard under conditions which can be tough at times, and which have given rise to powerful true stories and myths which have lasted for generations. With a generous yet cruel sea, shipwrecks have generated new cultural mixes and rituals like the daily Spanish siesta in the village of Gryllefjord..

If you are looking for something special for your holiday or event, at Tranøya we definitely recommend that you include some of the magical experiences which Senja has to offer.
