ABOUT US

Our aim is to create an environment that inspires us to reflect on all the things we are in danger of losing when we allow pace to take control of our life.

We are two sisters who grew up on Refsnes Farm near Tranøya. We qualified in learning disability nursing and pre-school teaching. We know all too well how a hectic tempo, digitalisation and social media can take control of your life. But we never forgot our happy and carefree childhood on the farm where we grew up. Proximity to nature, people and animals. Like so many others, we had visited Tranøya, and obviously heard the stories about the beautiful, peaceful island. In recent decades it has become a place for health treatments, particularly within the field of psychiatry. The island has something calming about it. Few people leave here untouched. We had been mulling over the idea of running a business here, and by the time the old vicarage came up for rent, our concept was ready: Senja moments.

We want to slow the pace down for our guests and take them back in time. Hit the pause button. Our aim is to create an environment that inspires us to reflect on all the things we are in danger of losing when we allow pace to take control of our life. We achieve this through quiet surroundings, local food and local ingredients. We provide a place for people who want to learn about history, experience nature in the mountains or the sea, or who want a place to read books and hear nothing but the wind and eternal waves. We don’t get to experience the unique dance of the cranes, who gave the island its name (‘trane’ means crane in Norwegian), but we still have amazing birds and wildlife here. If you’re lucky, you might see majestic eagles, geese on the meadows, wild sheep around the buildings, high-spirited otters, or even come face-to-face with an elk – king of the forest.
